I sing that song every year at this time of the summer, and my kids absolutely love it (insert emoticon of your choice here)! Children all over Boardman, OH, are about to enter their last weekend of freedom from pencils, books and other schooly-type stuff. It is my favorite time of year, not because of kids going back to school (and a quiet home with a much lower grocery bill), but also because things start happening again.
Thursday is a better day to blog during the week, but I was at Staples with Lynda, the woman responsible for all the great kids’ programs at Evangel, shopping for school supplies for our Back Pack Bash. The wonderful people of Evangel Baptist Church have sponsored over 100 kids in Boardman elementary schools who won’t have supplies or backpacks on the first day of school. It was a lot of shopping! Then, some volunteers from church came to pack all the packs with supplies specific to their grades. Thanks so much to those who helped!
Sadly, we won’t be able to have the pizza party we had planned for these kids at our church. Our intent was to make them feel special and to build excitement for the coming school year. The guidance counselors at Robinwood Lane (Mandy Scrocco) and Market Street Elementary (Jennifer Carey) did their best to get us the names, but it’s very difficult to get this kind of thing together over the summer. They and their principals have shown great enthusiasm and gratitude for what we are doing for their kids. This is our first year, and we’ll get things together at the end of this school year to make it even better for the next. God will use this in a great way – I believe it!
Have a great Labor Day week-end. And, go ahead. Watch the video again. You know you want to.
